continuing on... [Mar. 5th, 2005|07:15 pm]
so, the next big and exciting part of this week was my birthday...yeah, i'm 24 now...wahoo... I went to work and was greeted by door decorations- posters that Marina and Steve made, that were pictures of people from WB shows, with quotations saying things like "happy birthday kristen" or "i wish it was jack and kristen instead of jack and bobby" (most of the posters were jack and bobby related). It was absolutely hilarious, and it seriously took me several minutes of laughing hysterically to get my keys out and open the door! The day progressed with me not getting much work done except the HW assignment that was due the next day. Tom made me a funfetti cake, Vikram brought cranberry juice, and Michelle made me a birthday hat, which I wore for a few hours hahaha. after work was orchestra, then hockey- the semi finals. The men's game was at 630, so i watched it...unfortunately, they lost...but our game was at 830, and we won!! It wasn't my personal best game by any means, but the rest of the team was totally on, and it was so exciting that we were going to the finals!!! After hockey, Jess and I went to Baskin Robbins, because as I had learned earlier, it was also Yahoo's birthday, so they were giving away free baskin robbins ice cream scoops. yay! Then I went back home and watched the new episode of Jack and Bobby (I am so lucky my birthday fell on a Wednesday so there was a fresh new episode) with Marina and Kristen, and it was super fun. :)
Thursday was the finals... of hockey, that is... so I just hung out at school until the game, and the stress level was high ... I had learned earlier that day that the IM refs, in their just for fun predictions, had predicted us going all the way and winning the championshiop...so I hoped they were right... :) being that I had never won an IM sports championship ever...So anyways, we opened the game up pretty fast, and Tim of course, score early on. Then ... I was out there, just trying to be defensive, and I had the puck...shot it towards the goal, and it went in!!!!!! I have never scored a goal before- this was my first goal EVER, and it was in the FINALS!! Anyways,I was so elated, and everyone on my team was also cheering because they knew that I hadn't ever scored a goal before, and that it just meant SO much to me (and bc it made the score 2-0!) ... so the game proceeded...So nerveracking. there was a power play against us at one point when John "tripped" someone from the other team, so we had 2 girls/1guy on their 2 and 2. I was out there with Jess and Tim for half of it, and the whole penalty, we didn't let anyone score! sweet! :) it was a great game...and we WON! 4-2! so we were the first matsci team to win an IM championship in like a LONG time ... aka, no one knows when the last time was...so we won tshirts, and LOTS of pride! i was elated the rest of the night, as was everyone else on teh team! we went to the bar and met up wtih the recruits and I really think i told every single person I talked to that i scored! I am STILL Totally excited about it!!!
Last night we all went out to dinner for my birthday at a mexican restaurant. It was almost all of the usual suspects, except the few that were doing recruitment stuff for dinner, and it was a really fun time. then we came back to my place and Molly had made me a reallly yummy oatmeal caramelly cake, which was sooooo good. then a bunch of us headed to the recruitment party. it was fun, btu I was totally tired...so... yeah.
today i had orchestra nad then i went to work to try to work on my project. I didn't get a lot done. I came home and tried to do more work but got distracted by the Gilmore Girls. :) I'm going out tonight with the recruits again...yay.
Tomorrow is my orchestra concert! i hope I can get a lot of work done before it!

Yay! [Sep. 27th, 2004|10:58 pm]
[mood | happy]
[music |beethoven's 5th]

So today was the first day of orchestra for the quarter. And, Chandler, another MSEer who just joined the orchestra, had checked the seating chart friday and emailed me, but I actually didn't believe her till I saw it today... I'm still in the 1st violin section...but i've moved up to... 2nd chair!!!!!! While I am totally excited (and I didn't think my audition went THAT well!) I am also quite nervous about this, because overall, I now can't really fake stuff because I am right under the conductor!! hehehe. but I am going to practice really hard (as much as my free time allows, that is) and hope that I live up to his (and my) expectations... I'm pretty excited though. I hadn't auditioned for anything since HS until last year's reviving my violining and joining the orchestra audition, so I am really excited to have done so well, just preparing by myself, no lessons. I guess some of what my teacher taught me in HS has stuck... :P anyways, enough about that... other stuff, well the weekend was good, i did a lot of relaxing and procrastinating and didn't get a lot of work done. I bought a VCR so I can tape my WB shows when my life gets even more hectic and i won't be home for the 3-4 shows I plan on keeping up with. And we had Steve/Joel's birthday dinner yesterday, which was fun, despite a few glithces including some cake crises, and some restaurant annoyances. I called for a table an hour ahead (because they don't take reservations) and they said that my table for 12 would be fine. However, when I got there, they said that the people at "our" table were 3/4 of the way done and that we should have just a 15 min wait. we checked back and they said 5 more min...finally they ended up just making a new table for us. it is debatable whether or not this party was really 3/4 of the way done, because right before they put togehter the other table for us, I walked by on my way to the restroom and they had only water and soup!! anyways, they left over an hour after we had arrived, and we were sorta almost done. sigh. the cake was cool, and we played some apples to apples which is one of my favorite games (thanks to noah and my roooooooooomie) and it was great fun. yay for birthdays. I hoep that even though the cycle of birthday dinners and me (and sometimes jess) making cakes is over, i hope that we still do random game nights and get togehter with our "class" because I really enjoy everyone's company and I really liked all of the birthday dinners we have had. yay!
ok, now i should stop procrastinating and actually do some work...maybe... :)

first week of school, again [Sep. 23rd, 2004|07:34 pm]
so this was most of the first week of my 2nd year as a grad student. THe week started off just fine. Monday fun at volleyball, plus 7th heaven and everwood. yay tv. :P then tuesday was the student faculty luncheon which started off with jess and i picking up the cake nad flowers, followed by setting everything up in the luncheon room, and making sure it went smoothly, followed by cleanup, and other activities in order to help the new students learn about our lab groups. Wednesday classes started, and luckily i only had one...and I also get to serve as the grad student rep for the grad curriculum committee, so i was busy with that too, and I have to organize some stuff to get some information on what the students think/want. I changed my strings tuesday night and practiced tues and wed nights for my audition. Today i had a lot of class because I went to three in hopes of choosing one to drop. I think i've come up with one, but i'm not sure just yet. Then was my orchestra audition which went decently well, which is good. Now, i'm at home just relaxing. and watching dumb tv. yipee... :)

fun weekend:) [Sep. 19th, 2004|11:36 pm]
[music |garden state soundtrack]

So Thursday was practically the weekend,... after work we took hte new kids to carmens, and then to PM. I had a great game of darts with davebryan as my partner- we schooled brian adn this new girl ... yay! we had fun at PM but we got there SO early because we finihsed at carmens early...so many people cleared out by like 1030 11 ish (!?) so after talking to marina for about a half hour, we decided to switch to nevins, just for fun. it was cool there, we had a good time, and decided that from now on, if PM gets sucky, we're switching over. :)
Friday after work was party time. Jessica and I went to do some last minute shopping and got subways, headed to nates and started setting up. the first people to arrive at the party were international students at 9:05 hahaha. but gradually more people arrived, and the party was kicking by 10-1030 ish...so much so that the police came, gave us a noise violation and we had to leave. at 1030!!!! so luckily 4 of hte new kids live in a prof's house, so we moved the party there, complete with a garage to play beer games. haha. we brought all hte food and the keg. I played my first game of "flippy-cup" ever...I was afraid that i'd bring down teh team, but I chugged faster than i've ever chugged before and flipped my cup on the first try. wahoo! The party was fun, everyone was getting pretty drunk, and we all had a fun time. We had to make a flow chart for steve bc he was too drunk to understand how we met molly and kristen, and then he insisted that we make him a flow chart about his birthday too...at least he agreed to let us take him somewhere for his birthday! Anyways, it felt reallllly good to drink nad be out late and not get home or to sleep till like 3. Then saturday morning, Kristen adn I went to get car washing supplies, and we had our car washing party- we washed 5 cars (waxing 2) - mine, toms, cheryl's, kristen's and her friend renee's. We were so hungry after that, and cheryl made mac and cheese for me, david, tom and herself, while david and tom tried to help me fix my computer. yum. then we just hung out and then headedto bowling- and i bought the garden state soundtrack on the way. good stuff! bowling was a lot of fun, there were 10 of us... i bowled a 105 and a 100. sweet! then we headed back to my place and played some games and drank some drinks and just had a relaxing ish time getting to know some of our new people.
Today after church I went to chandlers to practice violin, and then went with jess to get tablecloths, cooked dinner and then watched jack and bobby with cheryl and kristen, and then kristen and I had a long conversation about why it is so easy for some people to find significant others, btu for some people (aka us!) it was soooo difficult...we are confused. we are normal, we're both in phd programs, we are not hideously ugly, and we're nice! what is the deal... for some reason i am more frustrated by this than i have been in a while...sigh...
anyways, it was a great fun weekend, and this week should be busy and fun, and classes start. scary !!

new student week began [Sep. 15th, 2004|11:17 pm]
So monday after work was vball of course. it was a lot of fun- we had 10 people so 5 on 5. then i got home and watched the 2nd half of the season premiere of 7th heaven... luckily cheryl taped it so when i get the chance i can watch it all...and i watched everwood. yay for WB. i seriously think its my favorite channel. :)
Tuesday after work I babysat for my cousins. that was fun- luckily jens bedtime was moved up to when i got there, because she gets really upset when it is someone besides her parents at night time. so ben nad i played (he did math- adding 2 2digit numbers- and he's only 5!) and then i watched scrubs and did a crossword. When i got home, our internet was still not working (boo) and matt tried to fix it by calling the wireless router people but they said it was comcast. so i called and just when I got ready to tell them why I called, the internet came back. wahoo! :) Today the new students came, and we got to introduce ourselves and start to get to know them and acclamate them to the department. There was a bbq that was rained out so it was indoors, but i went anyway, and it was a good opportunity to spend time with the new class. I got home and did 2 loads of laundry and practiced my violin. fun. now i'm playing with yahoo's music program, which is super cool... the rest of this week is crazy with new student week stuff but it should be fun.

busy weekend!! [Sep. 12th, 2004|11:02 pm]
so this weekend was crazy. starting friday, after work, I practiced instead of volleyball...and then I went to a chemistry party with Chau Jean and a few other Matscis. it was fun to actually meet some new people, although, i can't say I spent the majority of my time there doing so. I did, however, have a good time talkign to Chau Jean, Feng and Prakash, all whom i don't spend much time with normally. so that was cool. Saturday I did some church clean up and got a blister from cutting hostas. then iw ent shopping for new student week party stuff with jess. Went home to relax for a bit, then went to the beach with Jess and her sister and did crossword puzzles. :) Then was girls night out- it was fun- we had dinner at a mexican restaurant, and then went to a club. I'm not the hugest clubber though, so I would have had mroe fun at a bar i'm sure. but it was nice to be out and dressed up ish and all that. I got tired though, and was like, is it bad that i'd rather be at home watching stupid tv shows? but all in all it was nice to hang out with just girls. :)
Today after church I practiced and watched 7th heaven, then steve and I went to panera for lunch and saw Garden State. I liked it a lot- i especially loved the soundtrack. I'm going to have to buy it. :) I then went ot babysit for my cousin and that was fun. then I watched Jack and Bobby- also really good. Now i'm relaxing. busy week ahead...

NY, etc [Aug. 28th, 2004|01:08 pm]
I just got back Monday from a trip to NY, which was a very nice, busy, fun filled time at home. I got in on a Saturday, and hung out with the family, and went out to the usual Applebees with KTA and my sister, and bumped into a fellow CMUer from my HS there. Sunday after church, I pretty much hung out at home and read a lot of the DaVinci Code. Monday I went to Boston for the day with KTA...we took the PJ Ferry which i had never done before, and drove up to alice's and dropped off some of kta's stuff, went to harvard square to Tealuxe!! and then to the bookstore where we met up with Alice and Susan!! Had dinner and went shopping at Cardullos for imported chocolates (yum!) and then went back to alice's to talk, make brownies, and watch the olympics. Fun! the next morning kta had a job interview, and then we headed back to NY...spent that evening partly at a car show with my Dad, which I had never done before, and it was cool to walk around and see him get all excited about cool cars, and then my sis and I went to my Aunt and Uncle's to visit. Wednesday morning my sister and I went to the mall and spent a lot of time in American Eagle, where she convinced me to buy jeans and i also got belts and khakis. yay! then I had lunch with Amy, who i hadn't seen for a few years at least, so that was nice. In the afternoon we went to visit my Grandparents, which was also very nice. :) Thursday I hung around and relaxed and watched the Olympics- got to see badminton and beach vball... yay! then we had yummy NY Pizza for dinner, my sister and i did some makeup shopping, and I hung out at home for the night. Friday morning I went to Jamie's and talked for a while, caught up since we haven't been so good about communicating this last quarter/summer. Then my family and I went to my Aunt and Uncle's beach house and spent hte day at the beach and in the water and ate more pizza for dinner and hung out with my cousins who also came down for the day. I got to meet my new baby cousin and hang out with the older one who is one of the cutest little 2 year olds ever. Then Friday night I got to see jmark!!!!!! which was also great, and we went to a diner and hung out. Saturdya morning I had an eye doctor appointment really early, met melissa at starbucks, and then hung out at home with the family, played some scrabble with my dad (and won!). Sunday after church I had lunch with Jenelle and her fiance, which was also really cool since i hadn't seen her in a really long time either. After that, we had a family bbq with the other side of the family, and i played lots of games with alexandra and matthew, including teaching them mastermind and scrabble, which was of course, tons of fun. then lucy came home and we played more. and christopher, who's two, came over and wanted to be picked up. that was so cute. :) I had a great time with all of my family this trip!! Kta came over Sunday night to hang out a little nad i left monday morning early, and went straight to school. It was a great week at home though, makes me wish I could go home more frequently.
This week was busy-ish, we watched the olympics with our new neighbors who are really awesome on monday, tuesday i took jon to get chris's phd gift, wednesday hung out at home, thursday took matt jess and cheryl out to dinner at CPK to thank them for all their driving me around, and then watched dickie roberts with matt and molly. Yesterday I visited my cousins here and i played minigolf ish with ben, and watched the olympics with eric. Today so far I have gone on a couple errands. i love having a car and being able to go where ever when ever!!! :)
oh, and i can't beleive that orientation is over practically, and classses are starting for CMUers on monday.!! i still have like 4 weeks till class... :)

Dave's wedding/Pittsburgh visit [Aug. 3rd, 2004|08:06 pm]
So the most exciting thing happening recently was my recent visit to Pittsburgh for Dave's wedding. But briefly, the week leading up to it...consisted of a bbq at church which was pretty fun, then Sunday after church I took a walk around, and then watched Best in Show, then relaxed, and went to the Bahai Temple with Jessica. The Bahai temple is one of 7 in the world, and it was pretty cool. Monday was orchestra after school, then the concert was Tuesday night, and it went a lot better than I had anticipated. We went to Chilis after that. Wednesday it was so exciting because my lamps came!!! I've been waiting for them for like 5 weeks, or more, so I was very excited, finally I can get started on MY part of the project! After school I played vball, of course, then packed.
Thurdsay- woke up super early for our flight and met brian and steve on the train, had a headache on the train, and the plane. Tom and I did a crossword (not that well though) on the plane. We arrived in Pittsburgh and Steve rented a car (bright red Pontiac grand am sporty car... too cool for us :P ) and then we headed ot our hotel, and Brian, Steve, and Tom (from now on referred to as BST) went to Fallingwater, while I hung out with my cousin and her adorable children. We went to Max and Ermas, then to Ikea, and then back to her house where i took a nap, and then got buried in carebears by alie, and then lost many games of guess who and uno to anna. After a fun visit, my cousin took me back to the hotel, and then me, and BST went to Station Square, because that is a touristy thing to do. I bumped into Fay!! It was awesome, because I hadn't thought i'd get to see her, so I was really happy that I ended up running into her randomly! I made the guys get dave and andys after our chinese food (including steve's amazing chicken), and then we headed back to the hotel. We all slept pretty late on Friday, headed to Dennys for breakfast, came back and changed, and then headed to the wedding. Unfortunatly, although I have spent 4 years of my life in pittsburgh, I did not drive around at all...and so was not much help in navigating...so we ended up being a tad late to the wedding (walked in as the ring bearer was walking up) but the wedding was absolutely beautiful. We headed to the reception, which luckily was at our hotel, so we found it OK on the way back. The reception was a lot of fun. I'm so glad that the four of us went, because we didn't really know anyone else besides Dave and Carise. They are such an adorable couple, and they are just so happy together- it just made me so happy to watch them and be able to be there with them at their wedding. :) I even danced, and I even got BST to dance also. :)
After the wedding, we went up to our hotel and hung out and talked for at least an hour, which was really nice (i feel like we don't get a lot of bonding time, plus they're guys...) and then they went to sleep for a few hours until their really early flight. I slept more after they left, and then Roxanne picked me up and we went to CMU, where we went to the Waterfront to eat and shop, hten went backt o zeta, then walked to see Corutney's apartment and spent the whole afternoon talking to her. I was really happy because in my previous visit, she had spent a few hours with me, but then went off with her boyfriend, but she spent the WHOLE day with me and roxanne, so we got lots of courtney by herself time, which was just totlaly awesome. It made me remember how much fun we had all of last year, and how she just isn't as great at keeping in touch, but she sitll cares and is still a good friend. :) We went to a BBQ that Sylvia and Ben were hosting, which was fun, it was good to see them too. I wish i had gotten to see Ben more. :( next time... we went to see the notebook, but it was sold out (as were many other movies)so we went to get Ritas and watched SVU at zeta before heading out to F and F so i could get my Sweet potato fries. :) Then C went home, and Roxanne and I went back to zeta, and sylvia came over and we ended up talking for a long time too. yay for quality time with my big, little and little little!!!! :) I love them all so much. :) I wish i coudl have met my tiny, but that didn't work out. :(
I got about 2-3 hrs of sleep, but thank you so much to roxanne fro driving me to the airport so early!!! I didn't sleep on the plane or the train...went ot church, went to play vball with matt and his friends downtown which was SO MUCH FUN and then dinner at joy yees with the crew. I crashed at 10 bc i was so tired.
More to come about this week soon...

updating or whatever [Jul. 24th, 2004|04:50 pm]
So, this week i had thought would be long, because I didn't think i had a lot of WORK stuff to do, since i am STILL waiting for equipment i ordered over a month ago....grr... but it wasn't bad. Did other work on a paper my advisor is trying to finish up, so I got to learn some stuff and be productive sort of. Hopefully my stuff will come next week... but enough about that.
Monday night after work was orchestra, and we started the choral pieces. We're playing Faure Requiem, which I hadn't thought I had played, but I think I actually did in Gemini, where I also played the Franck symphony we are playing. so its kinda bad that i can't play the symphony all that well having had already played it. oh well. its hard. Tuesday after school i went to target with cheryl and david and bought more than I had anticipated, which was both good and bad, but my TV stand came, so i assembled it while watching good tv (7th heaven, gilmore girls, summerland- gotta LOVE WB!) and then called home for a while. Wednesday I was really sad because volleyball was cancelled because the weather wasn't that nice so the beach was closed. So i watched the rest of the episodes of I love the 90s (I do think I have finally seen all of them now) and took a walk around with Brian bc we were both bored. Thursday after school was orchestra as usual and PM, it was a slow night at PM so I ended up talking to Jess the whole time, which was nice. we get along a lot better now that we don't live together. Then after school yesterday there was a CMU alumni event, so I went with Lorraine, who is a Chem phd student who also went to CMU. The bar downtown was really nice and it was cool to go out after school, but it was so weird, because the event was sponsored by the business school, and everyone there either had their MBAs or were interns between the years of their MBA program. So. we were the youngest people there and a bit out of place. but it was free appetizers, so that was OK. Then on the way out we bumped into another CMU alum that we knew and recognized, tiffany, and we ended up talkign ot her for like 40 minutes or so, exchanging email addresses, and making a plan to at some point get together. I hope that that actually happens, because I'd really like to meet other people besides my program members, who I do like a lot, but, everyone wants to meet outside people. So, we should have some party or something some time. We left a bit after that, and got back here around 9 ish, but Lorraine wanted to go home since she went to work today, so I IMed steve and we rented Pirates of the Carribbean and watched it here. Today I did laundry, cleaned, practiced, called home, visited Jessica's new apartment, took a walk and got chocolates and went ot Jewel to get something for the barbeque I'm going to tonight. fun stuff. :)

more ravinia and more 90s! [Jul. 18th, 2004|10:23 pm]
update on the last few days.
Thursday after school I went to volunteer at a homeless food shelter. i didn't get to stay the whole time, but it was cool- I didn't get to go a lot during this past year, but hopefully I will have more time this coming school year. I left early to go to orchestra, which was fun, and we got out early. yay. then PM of course, which was alright- not the hugest crowd but it was fun. I was starving so luckily brian had come from giordanos and gave me one of his leftover slices. then i played some darts as marko's partner and we lost. blah. apparently my bullseye streak is over. aw.
Friday I had originally planned on car shopping but one of the dealers creeped me out and cheryl suggested that I just GO on the day i'm going to actually buy. so... soon...instead, i watched more I love the 90s, and then went to see Shrek 2 again, with matt and his friend. Even though I have already seen it, it was so funny it was worth paying for again. then we went to chilis, and afterwards, I caught the end of 1999.
Saturday was moving tom day. It was very efficient- we had 7 people, so it went really fast loading up, plus he had done a bit before I got there. then at his new place we had fun getting his bed and couch up the rickety wood stairs to his back door. :P His place is really nice though, I am anxious to see what it looks like when he's done putting everything in place! After that, he took us to potbellys for sandwiches, then i went home, read the notebook, nad watched more i love the 90s. even though I've spent many hours watching I love the 90s, there are still a few years i have not yet caught. so that makes me sad. I think i haven't seen 95, 96 or 98. i'm always out during them! at night a bunch of us went out for marina's birthday. we went to a really cute bar/lounge type place and it was a whole lot of fun- it was a martini bar- i got a macadamia martini. mmm :) and we got a few appetizers including sweet potato fries which i have not had since pittsburgh!! :)
Today after church i took a long nap, then went to ravinia with cheryl david jess and a couple other people. and we bumped into another matsci group. it was a great concert- beethovens 5th!! fun stuff. :)

i love summer! and i love the 90s! [Jul. 14th, 2004|11:12 pm]
So last saturday night i went to ravinia for a rachmaninoff concert where they did rhapsody on a theme by paganini which is one of my all time favorite pieces, and symphony 2 which was also awesome. I went with cheryl and david, amanda and aaron, marina, rafael and steve. Rafael got into a slight accident on the way:( but i think everything was ok. it was an AWESOME concert and a really fun time. we played guillotine thanks to rafael who brought it, ate yummy food, and totally enjoyed the show. the weather was awesome. yay for ravinia! and free for students. wahoo:)
Sunday we cleaned out our refrigerator, which took a while but its beautiful now. then was our orchestra concert, which was hands down the best one i've been in here yet- we played the prokofiev violin concerto wiht an AMAZING AMAZING soloist and tsaich 5 which is one of my alltime favorite symphonies. it was SO much fun.!!! and many of my friends came- tom, vikram, steve, matt, jess, david, chris and jon. it was so nice to see everyone there- it made me feel so good. :)
Monday at school we tried to do compression testing, but our samples were not perfectly rectangular prisms...After school was orchestra and we got out an hour early. wahoo :P made jess's cake and watched i love 1991.
Tuesday i spent the day making my samples "perfect"...which they aren't... and then was jess's birthday dinner at dixie's kitchen. we couldn't tell if our waiter was male or female...i think it was a he, but there was definitely much debate! cake at our place afterwards was fun as usual and we watched i love the 90s and the all star game. Talked to JMark on the phone too, which was nice, since i feel like i hadn't talked to him in a long time!
Today was busy too. Our new balance came today! yay! and we struggled through compression tests with our not quite perfect samples. more to come on that... and then volleyball which was of course fun. :) then more I love the 90s. i love summer!!!

tv stand woes and hopefully good weather! [Jul. 10th, 2004|02:34 pm]
so, july fourth was a lot of fun- went to the evanston fireworks with a lot of people from the dept, which was awesome- the fireworks lasted like 45 minutes which was really cool, and then we all headed to PM and pretended it was a thursday night:) I spent time hanging out/talking to the usual suspects, and played darts and had a very ON game. wahoo! then monday i went tv shopping and bought a tv and a stand. the stand however, was defintely too low for my personal taste, especially after being used to jess's on a chest of drawers... then had orchestra. Tuesday after school i went to erics to baby sit while he and his wife went to see ABBA. it was fun playing with ben and jen, although when it came jen's bedtime she was very upset that her parents weren't home yet so i had to spend over a half hour just comforting her before i felt comfortable laying her down crying. :( I wished she could understand me saying, they'll be back soon! Ben was fine with it though, and all was well. I slept over there because it was just easier, and then wednesday was school again and volleyball! but the weather was a tad gross during the day but had cleared up totally by 5, yet the NU beach was closed! grrrrrrrr...so we stood around waiting to figure out what we were going to do for a little bit and then ended up getting evanston beach passes and playing there instead. it started to rain while we were playing but we kept on going, and it turned out to be totally worth it. besides being lots of fun and good practice, the rain resulted in two gorgeous rainbows out over the lake. ahh! it was great. :) I was totally drained after that though... Thursday after school was orchestra and then PM- but it was a slow PM night so cheryl marina and i went to nevins instead and hung out there. marco and david met us there when everyone else left PM also hehe. Friday was alright- the weather got really bad int he afternoon and scared people away from ravinia. :( So i cooked with david and cheryl and we watched bad santa which is a terrible movie!!
Today tom took me to return my tv stand and we went to 7 places with no luck. he's looking for one too. we were both very disturbed that the only ones we saw that we liked at all were like 79.99. ugh. i don't know what to do. i might buy one from target.com... we'll see but the shipping is like 40% of the price!! ugh.
the weather is holding out today though, so that's good. hopefully it stays this way!!

july already! [Jul. 4th, 2004|05:58 pm]
so i cannot believe it's july already!!

since my last post:
Last friday I went minigolfing with Steve and Brian...we were all pretty bad but it was defintely a lot of fun. hehe. then we went to brian's and rented 50 First Dates, and matt joined us. it was a good movie- really funny. we also ordered a pizza bc we were all hungry and hadn't eaten dinner. Felt like college- eating a pizza at like 11 on a friday night watching a movie. kind of.
Saturday I went to Eric's and we went test driving- civic and corrolla. Didn't have that much time though, because he had to get back to the kids. I really liked the civic a lot... hung out with Ben for a while- we did a puzzle of the world and played for a while. Then i headed home and tried to see what all was going on. I went to target while i was trying to figure out what to do- some people had talked about seeing Fahrenheit 911 but I didn't realllly want to go and the ppl didn't email me back so steve and I decided to go to this bar downtown that had a concert and we saw two bands perform- they were really awesome- i'm so glad we went, tried a new place, and had a great time! then we stopped in at leta and chris's party, which was really fun too, although not nearly as crazy and crowded as most of their parties. got home on the last purple train. wahoo. :)
Sunday after church I went to Taste of Chicago with Steve and Brian, and we tried lots of different types of food. yum! then I went to Ravinia with kate and jeff from church and saw Itzhak Perlman do the Bruch violin concerto! yay!
Monday Leta and I did a recruiting lunch for a guy from GT, and that was cool. After school I went to Jewel, and then to orchestra. Tuesday I met Steve after school and he took me to a different honda dealer, then we went to houlihan's for dinner (where the waitress forgot about us and bought us dessert) and then saw spiderman2. It was really good but i was really tired after that...
Wednesday after school I played beach volleyball, which also was so much fun. we played for like three hours. it was great. :) So many poeple play and i'm actually starting to play competently. hehe
Thurdsay after school I went to orchestra and then to PM as usual and hung out with everyone. The greeks were celebrating, and a few people had friends in town, so it was cool.
Friday i left school a tad early to go to BBB with cheryl and david and bought a lot of stuff. (well, cheryl bought a lot of stuff). We got chipotle for dinner, which was good bc i had been craving chipotle. :) everyone else saw spiderman fri night, but i had already seen it. so I just hung out here with cheryl and david and matt and got a good amount of sleep.
Saturday I went to ikea with cheryl and david and got the rest of her furniture and some other stuff too. so that was good. it was downpouring though, so driving was a pain. went to that honda dealer too... and when we got back we had to unload in trips because of intermittent downpouring. while assembling her furniture, we noticed that two sides of her drawers were missing!! ugh. so she's getting them delivered here. annoying! I went to a games night with matt's metra friends at night and that was really cool, because we played fun games and got to know some new fun people! it was cool. :) Today so far I've gone to church, watched Bill and Ted's excellent adventure and totally cleaned my room. now i'm also updating my pictures by ordering some prints. fun stuff. :) Tonight is fireworks. Tomorrow is a day off so i plan on tv shopping and practicing. fun. :)

bullseye!! [Jun. 25th, 2004|01:47 am]
So tonight after orchestra i headed to the bar as usual...and hung out talking to dave and tom for a while, then headed over to the darts area where i convinced dave to play with me and challenge the winners of the current game. however, we didnt' know that marco and this girl had already called next game. so hipo stopped playing and tom graciously let marco and his friend play (or i should say, he graciously let me and dave play) ... so we RULED This game. it was so awesome- i think it was the best game of darts i've ever played- dave and I totally whooped them- which is crazy because marco is usually really awesome. hehe. so then we decided to play another game. and as paul pointed out- we were being totally whooped. totally down... but... then, we came back!! and WON!!! it was totally crazy! :) And last week i had gotten like 3 double bullseyes, and this week i got 1, as well as all the rest of the single bullseyes to help us to victory!:) so much fun. :)
The rest of this week was good too...tuesday was hipo's birthday and despite people complaining (some that it was too early, some that it was too late, etc) it all worked out really well and almost everyone came and we had a great time. :) i even got to watch summerland while we ate cake :P Yesterday I played vball after school and then crashed on teh futon watching the parent trap remake. (LOVE that movie...) Having no HW rules! ANd after much electrical confusion , i finally ordered my lamps...so someday i mgiht get to start my project. hehe. yayyy. :) ANd the weather is totally holding out. wahoo!

tsaich 5!!!!! [Jun. 21st, 2004|10:38 pm]
so today summer orchestra started, and we're playing tsaich 5!!!!! i haven't played this since the good old days at saratoga, it was like the summer before 9th grade. but i still remember some of it and its great to be playing again! and i'm in the 2nd violin section this time, which is good for my ability to play the music by the time the concert rolls around. :) The summer orchestra crew is different than the school year one becuase people from the community can play too, so there are some older people music teachers random people etc. so its cool. fresh new faces, but some familiar ones too. It was fun to be playing again. happy happy!
Today was kinda boring at school though, i'm still trying to set up my experiment, the girl selling me lamps gave me wrong info,i think, and i'm still working out the logistics. i can't wait till its all setup and i can DO something!!! ugh. but whatever. its summer and other than that i'm having fun. :)

nice weather! yay summer! [Jun. 20th, 2004|11:55 pm]
Saturday morning I did a hunger walk with a girl from church- it was really fun- we did the 5K in about an hour. it was downtown ish near a harbor. we had some trouble finding it though, becuase we were really early adn walked by on a lower level of the harbor, near the boats, and the tents to register were blocked from our view. but it was nice to be outside walking and talking. i had a really good time. and it benefitted the food depository, so at least I was able to do a little bit to help, so that felt good. When i got home, i hung out for a while and did laundry, then decided it was now or never, so i got my hair cut... i sprung for a more expensive place than supercuts (33$!) and chopped it all off...yes folks, its shorter than its been since i think 9th grade... whoa! :P
When i got home, i baked cookies for the bbq i went to...but i was running late, and bc of jess moving out, we have one less baking sheet, so it took me forever to bake them, and i was late to meet ppl for the movie. doh. we saw saved and then went to marble slab (well , steve dave and tom ate ice cream while marina christina and i just hung out) and then we loitered a bit before heading back to my place (steve and tom) to book tickets for dave's wedding. so now we have tickets, hotel and the gift all done...just have to divide up who owes who what. since its in pittsburgh, i'm staying an extra day from everyone else so that I can hang out with the CMUers :) So if you'll be in town let me know!!! :)
Today I walked to church, and it was so nice out. when i got back matt and I headed over to marcus and michelle's for a bbq. it was awesome- there were a lot of ppl there, the weather was perfect, and the food was great. good times! :) came back here and fell asleep for a while, then watched chicago. yay. good times. now i'm going to go to sleep i think and prepare for another busy week... i feel like i'm even busier now that classes are over, because i have so many more activities going on. orchestra starts tomorrow and I am very excited for that!! and hipos birthday will hopefully happen this week and hopefully i'll get ot at least one day of soccer and vball. craziness!! and hopefully the weather holds out so that I get antoher enjoyable week of biking to school... :)

ben folds/rufus wainwright [Jun. 18th, 2004|11:29 pm]
Just got home from the concert- it was SO awesome!!! I already knew i liked ben folds, but i now feel like I should run out and buy the rufus wainwright CD bc his part of the show was so awesome! His voice was amazing- reminded me of the lead singer of jump little children, in the way that it was so deep and crisp and clear. IT was a lot of fun. I saw with marina vageesh vikram and his friend and jess. it was a really good time, lots of fun.
Last ngiht was fun too- the MSE picnic was really cool- good turnout with lots of students and faculty and famlies. clean up wasn't even that bad. :) At night i went to PM with the usual suspects, and stayed tilla round 1. played some really crappy games of darts. but despite the fact that i barely hit any of the regular numbers to close, I got 3 double bullseyes and 2 singles. holy moly. not my usual ability!! too bad i wasn't on with my other shots too!!
Came home to being locked out!! the chain lock was locked so i couldn't get in. grr. but it was funnier in the morning, retrospectively. Today before the concert, we had a group field trip to see Chris plasma spray, which was really cool, then we ate a group lunch, then did some work. I got a quote on my lamps, and we rearranged the lab! craziness...
other than the difficulties in getting home (the masses and a car parked far far away) the concert rocked. I'm waking up super early tomorrow for a hunger walk. that should be neat. then who knows...

summer=sooooooo nice! [Jun. 16th, 2004|10:55 pm]
So Monday we moved cheryl in after the workday...we had a team of 8 ppl- me her her sister maria david matt tom brian. it was crazy how much stuff she had!! how she fit all that into her tiny dorm room is beyond me!! hehe. but it went fairly quickly and then she took us all out to giordanos. (I ate 1.5 stuffed pizza pieces...i've come a long way!) it was a good time hanging out with everyone.
Tuesday after school i was convinced to play soccer- so i did. it was actaully quite fun and i was SO TIRED aftewards. I also got a ball kicked into my face. blah. there is a contingency of hard core players and they were kinda aggressive...I was not so happy about that. but whatever. i might keep playing. at least one day a week. When i got home i watched brainless tv for a little while and fell asleep listening to rachmaninoff.
Today we had the "what are our summer goals" group meeting, and now i'm buying my lamps to set up my experiment!! i'm so excited to get things going so that i don't have to sit and read papers anymore! :) Summer is so fun though. we did 3 crossword puzzles today :P we do do work too... it'll be great when i'm doing experiments though. :) Its so nice not to have to do hw at home though. I keep bringing home papers to read but i don't actaully read them. haha. whatever. After work today I went to cozy and kafein and walked around with jon. it was fun, since i hadn't seen him in a LONG time. it was fun. :) Yay! And then i came home and i'm just relaxing and hanging out.
The rest of the week is crazy too... Tmw is the mse picnic. hopefully it doesn't rain! then the bar, then ben folds on friday! and its graduation for my roommate. busy busy busy!! but fun. and warm. and as long as it doesn't rain, i'm loving summer:)

warm weather and summer and stuff [Jun. 13th, 2004|08:05 pm]
So after finally being DONE! i have now gotten back into "research" mode, where I am still trying to figure out how to set up this experiment. at least the lamp company finally got back to me. So i spent much of thu and fri during the day reading and re calculating stuff...and writing my preliminiary evaluation...
Thursday after work, jess and I went to Marshall Fields and i bought glassware for our kitchen, and a magic pan. :) and frango mints. really good. never had them before. Cooked dinner, watched TV, then convinced two of our friends vageesh and joel that they wanted to come to the bar with us, and finally they decided to come. yay! it was so much fun thurdsay night...vageesh doesn't really drink much so we (jess and i and tom) bought him some drinks, and he was pretty toasted...I had 3 drinks too, which you'd think wasn't that much... i had one special (bacardi o and coke. yuck.) then 2 cran vodkas. i didn't want the 2nd one, but paul was like, what do you want, i'm buying you a drink, and i was a bit tipsy at that point so i was like, oh well whatever. oh well. Vageesh and I beat one of the undergrads who's coming here next year and his partner in darts. I was all over the place on some of my throws though- one time i threw 2 that didn't even hit the board and one bullseye. :P it was a lot of fun. I'm glad we won. :) we then played marco and some girl...and we of course lost, bc it was marco. :P Then Jess and I spent like an hour talking to paul, then finally left the bar around 2. ! late for us... i was pretty drunk though, much to my disappointment. oh well. i was stil feeling it the next morning. (3 drinks!) sigh. Friday despite my feeling sick (and having gotten only like 4 hours of sleep) was still fun. we had group lunch at joy yees (yum!) and hung out relaxing and working. then Roxanne came, and she and I and matt watched greek sing (it was great to finally see it! Zeta, you guys were awesome!!) and then we went to chilis for dinner and saw Harry Potter, which was totally awesome!
Saturday Rox left, and then I went to the farmers market with my roommates, and then went shopping with cheryl and david and maria like ALL DAY to sams club where we got a fan for my room (hopefully it'll be as good as AC would be) and then to target and jewel. fun stuff. got back just in time to meet the movie ppl for the stepford wives. I had read all sorts of reviews for the stepford wives, and i was very glad that it was not a thriller like the original movie version! It was actaully quite funny, and very good. surprise (sort of) ending, kept my attention. Defintely good. I stayed up till like 2 doing laundry adn watching As Good as it Gets after that.
Today after church i did mad cleaning and dusting and vacuuming...and watched King Pin. Too many movies!!! Cheryl's moving in tomorrow! crazy! time flies....
